"Go," Jesus replied, "your son will live." The man took Jesus at His word and departed... and his boy was alive.(John 4:46–53)
The Bible tells us of a royal official who came to Jesus seeking healing for his dying son. Although he was not yet a follower of Christ, he had heard that Jesus had come to Galilee, so he went to Him and pleaded for Him to come to his home and heal his child.
Instead of going with the official, Jesus simply said, "Go; your son will live." At that very moment, a miracle took place. God spoke His Word, and it came to pass exactly as He said. There was no laying on of hands, no gathering of people, no revival service. While God certainly works through those things, what stands out in this passage is this simple statement: "The man took Jesus at His word."
How much more should we, as believers today—fully forgiven through Christ's sacrifice on the cross and blessed with the complete Word of God in the Bible—take Jesus at His Word? No matter what circumstances we face, God's Word provides truth, wisdom, direction, and hope. There is instruction for every season of life. Jesus said, "Seek and you will find."
The first step in surrendering our lives to Christ is believing. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16-31 NIV). But our faith does not end there. It is a continual journey of trusting God's Word as He reveals more of His character, His promises, and our true identity in Him. As we continue to believe, we grow deeper in our relationship with Christ and learn to rest confidently in His faithfulness.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12–13, NIV)
May we be people who, like the royal official, take Jesus at His Word, trusting that what He has spoken is true and that He is always faithful to fulfill His promises.
